The funny thing about this is that you know that the only reason Steve volunteers is because he thinks Danny is hot and wants to get on his good side, because Steve isn’t a dog person. Like initially Steve probably went to the rescue with Chin and was just there because Chin made a detour, but then he saw Danny in a wet t-shirt because Danny had just been giving the dogs a bath and Steve is like

And Kono who works with Danny at the Rescue sees Steve looking at Danny and just high-fives Chin because these two assholes planned this shit. 

And then Steve keeps going back without Chin and Danny knows that Steve isn’t a dog person because Steve gets wary around the dogs, but Danny doesn’t comment on it and instead teaches Steve how to interact with them and teaches Steve everything he knows about pitbulls. And Steve grows to love the dogs, one in particular named Benny who used to be a fighter dog and is aggressive towards everyone except Steve. And Danny is kind of impressed because Benny doesn’t even like Kono and she’s like a fighter dog whisperer. But Steve talks to Benny in this little whisper that’s just barely audible and really only meant for Benny to hear, and he holds out his hand or sit in a corner and will wait for hours until Benny is ready to have Steve touch him. Once, Danny found both of them sleeping on each other in Benny’s kennel. Kono totally snapped a picture and hung it up on the bulletin board at the front desk (Danny may or may not have a copy of it in his office). 

Anyways, Steve basically falls in love with Danny and Benny and Danny falls in love with them too. But like they keep acting like they’re just friends for the longest time and then Danny goes to Steve and is like, “Hey, so Benny’s been here for a long time and no one else wants to adopt him because, well, he won’t let anyone close to him, except for you. So, I was wondering if you’d maybe think about –” 

And Steve just hands Danny already filled out adoption papers and is like 

And Danny’s like, “Fuck” because he is so gone. And then Steve takes Benny home with him and they’re a happy little family and Danny thinks that he’s not gonna see Steve anymore, but then bright and early the next day Steve and Benny are there. And Steve goes, “So, Benny kind of missed you and wanted to come say hi and also ask you if you’d like to have dinner later.” 

And Danny smirks and goes, “Benny is asking me out?”  

And Steve blushes and says, “Would you like to have dinner with me later?” 

“Yeah, Steve. I’d love to.” 

And then they date and move in together and get married and Benny is absolutely the ring bearer because he’s their son.

Ohhhhhh, @boazpriestly as a rescuer this fic idea makes my soul bleed for it to become a real full fledged story!  Especially the scene where Steve is wary around the dogs and maybe he bends over one that’s timid and the ears flatten back and the dog looks all wide eyed at him and Danny comes up and puts his hand on Steve’s back and just starts explaining dog language.  “See the ears, how they’re flat back like that, he’s terrified.  He’s had a rough history, his owners used to beat him, he tends to prefer women.”  And Steve’s lke oh, I can get Kono, and Danny smiles and goes “No, that’s not how you teach him that not all men are neanderthaal assholes, you squat down so you’re on his level and scratch him under his chin,” and he squats and looks up at Steve or Steve to follow him and Steve squats next to him and the pup slowly slinks over to them and kind of falls into Danny’s knee and leans because Danny’s already won him over and Danny goes “Don’t come over the top of his head, that’s threatening, come at him from below but make sure he sees you coming.  If you pet him under his chin it makes him lift his head which is pride in dog speak, if you pet him on top his head it makes him duck it which means fear.”  And Steve’s a little hesitant and says, “How do I know he won’t bite me if I try to pet him?” and Danny says, “You go slow and you read the signs.  This guy’s scared, the ears, the way he’s trying to make himself small. And that doesn’t mean the won’t lash out, they absolutely will, but you just pay attention to how he reacts to you.  I personally know this guy won’t bite you, but that’s because he’s my buddy.  But you shouldn’t ever just take it for granted.  Go slow.”

GAHHHHHHH…..  Is the name Show Us Your Pits Pitbull Rescue?  LOLLLLL.

Im sad I can’t find a pic of Scotty with a pit!  But I found an awesome one with Alex with his.  And it makes me think that obviously Danny gets one look at Steve naked chested and making out with Benny by the pool one day and says “uhhhhh, we need to do promotional posters, babe!”
