Prompt from the lovely thepyschicclam!

I had waaay too much fun with this (clearly) but I absolutely love the idea of family. So as soon as I saw this prompt I knew I wanted these two to do something goofy.

I can just imagine Stiles telling Derek that his research was correct and his training totally worked. (and Derek just rolling his eyes with a big smile because his husband’s a cute dork)

Single dad!Stiles:

Layover by dr_girlfriend

“Big, serious brown eyes were staring right into his from only a few inches away. The child had clambered half over the arm of Derek’s chair to study him at close range, her little rosebud mouth pursed in concentration.“Uh.” Derek couldn’t look away as the girl reached out one pudgy hand and patted him gently on the cheek. Her scent was soft and sweet and somehow a bit familiar, just enough to keep Derek from shying away.”

This is utterly sweet and totally fluffy. AU where Derek has left Beacon Hills and is en route back after a long absence, he bumps into an old friend with a new addition at the airport on Christmas eve and the possibilities seem endless.

All I Want for Christmas (Is You) by @darkenednights

Derek meets Stiles in a department store while shopping for his family, after seeing a little girl crying for her Dad on the floor. They part ways and Derek doesn’t think he’ll see Stiles again. Beacon Hills may not be that big, but it still doesn’t mean he’ll ever run into Stiles, because that’s just not how Derek’s life works. Despite what Erica tries to tell him whenever she can, that sometimes fate can happen, Christmas miracles, whatever, it won’t.

(Or, the one where Stiles is a single dad, Derek falls for him, and Christmas ends up better than Derek expected.)

Okay so I know this is a Christmas fic, but I’m a winter baby and I’m always down for a sweet little Christmas story. Derek is the sweetest thing in this – and Stiles and his daughter are a beautiful pair. Derek is a writer and bookstore owner (swoon) and he and Stiles bump into each other enough times that its beyond coincidence and firmly in ‘fated to be’ territory. Everybody is still alive and this fic will warm the cockles of your heart at any time of the year.

This Is Home by @warengrey

Other than being a werefox with a werekit for a son, Stiles’ life is relatively normal. He’s a single parent, owns a modest sized home, and has a variety of kid-friendly meal recipes tucked neatly under his belt. It might be just him and Nate, but they have it in the bag. Nothing is missing from their lives.

That is, until Nate befriends a girl named Sadie Hale on his first day of kindergarten. Then everything changes.

This fic has both Stiles and Derek as single dads but it’s from Stiles’ perspective so I’ve lumped it with the other singe dad!Stile fics. A lovely AU with werefox Stiles, little ones making their first best friends, dance recitals and light up trainers. Oh, and sweet sweet fluff. Prepare yourselves.

One Hale of a Sandwich by @hoechlinseverything

Stiles in bed isn’t really something Derek should be thinking about. Ever. Because the person who normally picks Lily up from school? Is Scott. Lily’s other parent. And Stiles’s partner.

Not to mention the entire source of Derek’s current misery.

–AKA, the one in which Derek thinks Scott and Stiles are in a relationship and that they want to threesome with Derek.

Spoiler Alert? They aren’t and they don’t.

This is delightfully fluffy and full of pining. Miscommunication, misunderstandings and a happy ending. Derek is bros with Erica and Kira (and yes, that’s as good as you’re imagining), Stiles is not in fact Scott’s romantic life partner, and Derek’s awkwardness ends with more than a sterek-y happy ending. Again, Stiles isn’t actually Lily’s biological father, but he’s her dad in all the ways that count. Prepare to have your heart melted, the awkward situation measurement raise high (this is Stiles Stilisnki we are talking about ok?) and the loveliest softest kindergarten teacher Derek.

You Put A Hallmark On My Heart by  @giantteenwolforgy

“Stiles is funny and smart and kind and is also his daughter’s teacher and his boss’s son. On the list of people who are off-limits, Stiles has held the top spot for as long as Derek has known him.Since Derek is Derek, Stiles also happens to rank number one on the list of people Derek is in love with. Seriously. His life is like a bad Hallmark movie.”

Another Christmas themed fic, a human AU with deputy!Derek and his daughter Annie who is in Stile’s class. This is so adorable and Derek’s internal monologue is hilarious – look out for the Uncle Peter reference because it made me giggle.

Our Lives Are Changing Lanes by @coyotequeens

There’s a lot of screaming going on inside the first house Stiles visits. He isn’t really worried, because it sounds like kids, but then the door opens and hi, says his dick, because the dude in front of him is gorgeous, built like a god with a face like thunder. Stiles wants to lick that solid jaw line. Hold the fuck on, says his cop brain, because the dude’s got kids hanging all over him; one’s on his back, skinny legs looped around his waist, and another two hanging off one arm, toes barely brushing the ground. There’s a tubby toddler clinging to his leg like a koala, and he’s got a baby tucked into the crook of the one arm that doesn’t have kids hanging off it. Stiles’ mouth drops open.

“How many of those kids did you kidnap?” he asks before he can wrangle his brain into submission.

The man gives him a look that says what the fuck is wrong with you and snaps, “You think I’d subject myself to this on purpose?”

“Oooh,” says one of the kids hanging off his arm. “I’m telling Mom.”

This is one of my favourite single dad!Derek fics – I have to admit. It’s long and have a bit of everything you might want – deputy!Stiles, werewolves are known, the Hale fire still happened but Laura is alive. There’s a touch of angst, some perfectly achey pining, drama, risk, and heroics. Derek and his daughter are written beautifully and so is Stiles and Derek’s developing relationship. Reading it again to rec it was a total pleasure.

The Most Important Thing by @bicanthrope

At first Derek didn’t know what to do with Romy. She was this tiny, squirming, pink thing that he had no idea how to read. But she was also his niece, and the only thing he had left in the world. He thought about giving her up and going back to California, but the thought of being so close to the place where his family had once been so alive hurt him, and so did the thought of letting her go. And so, in Chicago he stayed, and the Hills were forgotten. He didn’t want to go back. And no one came looking for him anyway.

This is just -UGH- so good okay? Slow build, healthy relationships, the loveliest little girl character, and a small group of new friends for our favourite boys. Derek is not in fact a daddy in this fic – he is an uncle – but he is the sole carer and guardian for Romy so he’s basically her father. There’s tragedy in the beginning – but its definitely not the theme – this is not an angsty fic. Derek and Stiles have both grown up and matured, they’re both open and honest and ready for each other and you will find yourself wiggling in your seat in happiness. Yes. You will, I promise! And you’ll be even happier when you see that bicanthrope has made this into a series, I’ve linked the first part so do explore the rest once you’ve read this!

Deliver Me from Thy Sweetness by thelogicoftaste

“Shift changes,” Stiles explains. “I’m your new delivery boy. See, I got the hat,” he points, “the clipboard,” he points, “and the truck.”

“What about my groceries?” Derek asks with a raise of his brows. “You got those?”

A short and sweet fic with Derek, his daughter Ava, and Stiles the delivery boy. Bubble bath beards, super hero origins, temporary tattoos and kitchen confessions make for a fluffy, happy ending.

DILF by twenty something

“Today is Scott’s first day of kindergarten and Derek is terrified.”

So, I think it is fair of me to say this is a standout of the singe dad!Derek genre (imho), its certainly one of my favourites. Derek is not the biological father of Scott and Jackson, he’s their uncle and is their guardian and parent after the death of Laura and her husband. It’s beautifully written, Derek’s relationships with his boys are written so so well – each one different and unique little characters that Derek clearly works so hard to be good for. Stiles is Scott’s kindergarten teacher. Cue the long haul for slow burn, genuine friendship building, found families, integrating a relationship into a single parent family. And lots of pre-school crafts. Because of course. This is just a lovely, lovely fic and is so worth a read and a bookmark – this is not the first time I have re-read it and I’m sure I’ll come back to it again!

You’ll Grow Into Your Skin by @crossroadswrite

“So funny story,” Stiles winces, “Remember when I joked you couldn’t get me pregnant?”Derek nods his head. He remembers pretty much everything from that day.“Right,” Stiles bobs his head, stops himself and does a little ta-da gesture towards Jacy, “Surprise?”

Ok, so – this is a good one. Derek leave Beacon Hills and spends five years bonding with his pack and sorting himself out – only to return and find out that secrets have been kept from him. A tiny bit of angst, more melancholy than sad, and a huge amount of heart aching hope and happiness. For reals – Jacy is a gorgeous character.

In This Town We Call Home by @paintedlandscape

Stiles has always loved Halloween; in the Stilinski-Hale household, it’s officially, no question, his holiday. (Derek can have Christmas, with its lights and cheerful decorations and prickly-needled trees.) This year, though, their daughter’s decided to dress up as Little Red Riding Hood – and there’s really only one choice to play the wolf. The question is: will Derek agree to wear horn-rimmed glasses and a poor excuse for a robe all night? And what’s Stiles’s role in this family outing?

Also known as: a seasonal burst of domestic holiday fluff.

Established Sterek with a little girl – absolutely heartwarming and adorable. Halloween is the perfect time to exploit having a werewolf Daddy and the cute factor is strong in this fic. A gorgeous slice of life fic with domesticity, family, sweetness, and hilarious halloween costumes.

Trust In This (Even if You’re Scared Stiff) by @thewinterotter

Stiles’ kid has a tendency to get into fights and possibly has bad taste in friends. Or enemies. Stiles isn’t sure yet, but he’s pretty sure the other kid’s dad is too hot to be human.

Both Derek and Stiles are single dads (spoiler alert: not for long) and their children get involved in a fight at school. Werewolves are known, Stiles is a deputy – yes, with handcuffs – and the three chapters follow the relationship from one fluffy and heartwarming moment to the next. Stiles’ parenting style is exactly what you’d expect from him and you get the added highlight of Erica as the sensei at the martial arts class that Stiles’ daughter Emmy goes to. How awesome is that? Totally delightful, in its entirety.

Somewhere I Belong by heartsdesire456

When Stiles got an interview for an internship at Fangs & Fur magazine, the publication owned by the well known and widely respected alpha Talia Hale, he never expected it to be offered an actual job by Alpha Hale herself. He also never expected for his life to change so much after he met the man whose department he was assigned to.

Stiles was not prepared for Derek Hale’s cub, either.

Okay so it starts off with single dad!Derek – but this definitely belongs in the parent!sterek section of this little fic rec because this is just the sweetest most lovely story of families destined to be together. Prepare yourself for the joys of alive!Hale family (come to think of it – alive!everybody basically), Stiles in glasses and a beanie, protective Derek and the best snark and banter between every single characters. This leads into a gorgeous series of fics that will literally make your teeth fall out they are so fluffy as sweet. This fic is like settling down with a cosy blanket and a box of chocolates and just savouring the sweetness. Plus, baby Alex is beyond adorable and will have you cooing in your seat, I promise.

A Wild Heart’s Desire by @mad-madam-m

If there’s one thing Stiles Stilinski knows, it’s that Deputy Derek Hale absolutely Does Not Like him. The only reason Derek even tolerates him is because their kids are worryingly codependent.

So Stiles is understandably confused when a very feral Derek shows up in his backyard after a call gone wrong and proceeds to move in with him.

Alright alright alright. Listen up folks – this one has it all – deputy!Derek, magic!Stiles, both of them have adorable kidlets who are best friends and yes oh yes one of my most favourite tropes – feral!Derek. The not-quite-friends to lovers theme is written beautifully and you feel Derek’s fears so much – and they are so eloquently and elegantly put to bed by this Stiles’ unconscious and natural good-heartedness. Featuring dino shaped nuggets, more mac and cheese than you’d think healthy – and an entire deer. This fic has its dark moments, Derek’s past is with its own tragedy in this au BUT alive!Hales, and a happy, fluffy ending leave me feeling blissed out and ready for my own cookout.

fandom-madnessess:

The first time was when he woke up, the sun streaming in through a crack between the curtains, Derek’s breathing soft and even next to him.

This can’t be real, Stiles thought. This life, this happiness, it can’t be real.

He started panicking. Derek woke up and pulled Stiles against his chest. Together they counted, first Stiles’ fingers, then Derek’s. Derek smiled and shook his head when Stiles told him it was because he couldn’t believe how happy he was.

Sometimes he still needs that reassurance, that after all the shit they’ve gone through, after all the shit he’s done, he gets to be happy. And over time, it even becomes a small gesture, for both him and Derek, to show the other how happy they are. So he counts his fingers when he slides under the covers next to Derek, counts them when they’re watching television, counts them any time he realizes he’s truly, ridiculously happy.

He’s sitting at the kitchen counter, willing the coffee machine to go faster, at seven am on a Sunday morning. It would be terrible if not for Derek’s humming drifting through the house as he makes the bed, and the pitter-patter of small feet racing towards the kitchen.

Lily climbs into his lap, and he leans back to accommodate her.

‘Are we counting?’ she asks, pointing at his hands, lying palms down on the kitchen counter.

‘You want to count together?’ he asks.

Lily nods and bends over his left hand. She press her little pointer finger against his pinkie and says, ‘One.’

When they get to ten, she turns to him with a brilliant smile, presses a kiss against his cheek, and slides off his lap.

‘Love you, daddy!’ she yells, disappearing into the hallway. You’d think it was a small elephant and not a five year-old pounding up the stairs.

‘Love you, too!’ he shouts after her.

The coffee is finally done and he pours himself and Derek cup. As he sets out breakfast, he privately counts his fingers again, a smile on his face.

Stiles watches Derek sometimes. When he’s in the living room, Patrick lying on his chest like a tiny newborn extension of the two of them. Stiles leans against the doorframe and crosses his arms over his chest and just watches. He knows that Derek feels him nearby, but Derek doesn’t move, doesn’t let on that he knows Stiles is there at all.

There’s no one else in the world except Derek and his cub.

Derek stares down at the sleeping baby like it’s the most terrifying and most wonderful thing in the world. Derek’s big hands, hands that Stiles has seen sprout claws and rip apart skin and bone, cup Patrick tenderly, holding him in place. Derek runs a hand reverently down his back, straightening the tiny blue cotton shirt that gets bunched above the diaper.

Fingertips brush through the mop of dark hair on Patrick’s head as Derek tries to tame it down, but it resists, fine soft strands sticking straight back up. Derek chuckles, a soft private smile spreading across his face as he watches his son.

“He’s so little,” Derek says, startling Stiles. Derek cups the back of Patrick’s head with his hand as if to emphasize his point. “I can’t believe this tiny person is ours.”

Stiles crosses the room and carefully sits beside Derek on the couch. Patrick snuffles in his sleep and buries his face closer against Derek’s shirt. Derek stares down at him like it’s the greatest thing he’s ever seen.

Stiles reaches out and rubs a hand along the baby’s back, and he makes a content whimpering sound in his sleep. Words are usually so easy for Stiles, but he can’t find anything adequate enough to express the swelling in his chest, the feeling of contentment and love and home he feels when he looks at Derek with their baby. Five years ago, he never would have imagined Derek Hale with a Pack, much less a baby. But they’ve come so far, and Stiles feels like the luckiest man alive.

“Look at his wee wittle fingers,” Stiles says, gently stroking the fingers curled into Derek’s Henley. Then, he carefully removes the blue bootie and bends down to kiss Patrick’s little foot. “And his wee toes. They don’t even look real. They’re so tiny.” Stiles rubs them between his fingers.

“What if…” Derek starts, clears his throat as he keeps his eyes on the baby. “What if I can’t protect him? What if – “

“Stop,” Stiles says softly, reaching out to curl his fingers around Derek’s neck. “We’ve been through this.”

“I know.”

“He’s going to be fine. He’s going to grow up to be strong, and we’re going to be great fathers. You, Derek, are going to be an amazing father.”

Derek lifts his face and looks at Stiles with such raw vulnerability in his eyes. It’s been like this for months, Derek’s fear and insecurity getting the best of him. No matter how much work him and Stiles have done trying to help Derek get over his past, there are some wounds that’ll never completely heal, some scars that will always shape Derek’s view of the world.

“Do you really think so?” Derek asks. He glances down at Patrick and places a light kiss on the top of his head. “I want to be everything for him, I want to give him everything.”

“And you will,” Stiles says as he scoots closer. “You’re already an amazing father.”

“You’re going to be great, too, you know,” Derek says with a smile. “You’re going to be the one to keep this family together.” Derek pauses, then adds more quietly, “To keep me together.”

“Hey, you do your fair share of keeping me from losing it,” Stiles says with a quiet laugh. “When I’m freaking out about his first cold or his first day of school or his first dance, you’ll be there to keep me from having an anxiety attack.”

Derek leans his weight into Stiles briefly before looking back down at Patrick. “You’re not going to get sick, are you?” he whispers against the top of his head. “You’re gonna be a big strong werewolf like your daddy. My little cub is going to grow up to be a strong Beta one day, strengthen and protect your Pack, aren’t you? Yes, you are.”

Stiles clears his throat dramatically. “And what if he’s not a werewolf, hmm?”

Derek’s eyes slowly turn electric blue as he nuzzles into the crook of Patrick’s neck. “Then you will be a strong man like your daddy. You’ll be brave, smart, and have a big heart that wants to take care of everyone.” He looks up at Stiles. “I won’t be disappointed, you know.” Stiles smiles. “My big boy can be whatever he wants to be, yes you can. And you’re gonna break all the girls’ and boys’ hearts, just like your other daddy.”

“Sure, cause I’m sure a heartbreaker,” Stiles drawls, rolling his eyes.

“Don’t listen to your daddy, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” Derek kisses the top of Patrick’s head. Then, he cradles the baby’s tiny body tightly with his other hand and shifts him higher. He peppers kisses all along his head as he says, “I won’t let anything happen to you.” Derek gently rubs his cheek against the baby’s forehead, and says quietly, “I won’t ever let anyone hurt you, and I promise you that I will protect you until my last breath.”

“You won’t have to do that,” Stiles says, leaning forward and kissing Derek’s jaw. “We are going to be a happy family, and we’re going to live to be old, pervy men who have gross old people sex when we’re like 80, who watch their grandchildren running around their yard. And our grandchildren will be like ‘Ugh, stop making out, Grandpas!’” Stiles laughs when Derek rolls his eyes. “You just better get used to the fact that you married me. And if I have anything to do with it, you are going to have a happily ever after. And you should know by now, I get what I want.”

Derek turns his gaze back to Patrick, smiling. “Happily ever after.” He rubs his face against Patrick’s hair, and then says, “For the first time in my life, I feel like that’s a possibility.”

Words still can’t describe how Stiles feels in that moment, like he’s so full of love for Derek and his son that he’s going to burst. Since Derek doesn’t seem intent on moving any time soon, Stiles grabs the blanket from the back of the couch and spreads it over him and Derek before he curls against his two favorite men in the world.

“We are, you know,” Stiles says sleepily after a few minutes, his eyes drooping. “Going to be happy. Patrick’s lucky to have you for a father, don’t ever forget that.”

“We’re both lucky to have you,” Derek says, and as Stiles drifts off, he feels Derek brush a kiss against his temple.
