Personally, I think this is one of the most important scenes for Cornwell. Look at that sentence, look at the wording of it. “My” – not ours, not from our universe. He was hers. This loss is personal. She lost a part of her personal world in this war.

“Gabriel” – not Lorca, like an admiral would call a captain. For her, he was Gabriel and she wants the world (or at least those few people who are in this room) to know.

In this sentence, we don’t see admiral Cornwell, we see Kat. She gives herself the luxury of acknowledging what she lost. That loss makes her forget, just for a second, about the Klingons, her rank, her professionalism. For just a second, she is just a woman who lost the man she loved.

But that sentence shows us how strong she is. She is suffering, she probably just wants to cry and grieve and drink whisky. But she has a job to do and she doesn’t accept no win scenarios. She goes to the bridge and runs a ship. Her loss didn’t make her stronger, but it showed us just how strong she is.

So on the one hand, I think @lorcaswhisky sells her work short when she describes her complicated, nuanced characterisation as “Gabriel ‘I had a feeling once and I didn’t like it’ Lorca”.

On the other hand, it makes me giggle, and also, you should read her fic ‘cos it’s damn good.

OK I am also having feelings (but I don’t want them to go away)

This is so perfect and adorable, look at them, I want to smoosh them both, look at Kat in Medical white and Gabriel in Ops bronze, I love them *cries*
