my absolute favourite thing about all the old star trek series is when the ship unexpectedly collides with something and, due to the lack of sophisticated special effects available at the time, everyone just throws themselves across the set as dramatically as possible

This reminds me of the opening scene of Beyond, when Jim, instead of beating/killing the aliens that are ATTACKING him he just runs away and calls Scotty. Even when they’re planning on breaking out the crew from Krall’s imprisonment and Jaylah runs off instead of helping, Jim says “let her go”. He doesn’t fight if he doesn’t have to. Thank you Simon Pegg you little lifesaver.
