The woods are dark and Stiles is lost. This is a dream, he thinks. The words roll around like marbles in his mouth, battering against his teeth, scraping at his gums, aching to escape. But he doesn’t let them out. He’s not sure if they’ll slip from his lips as a truth or a lie; he’s not sure of anything anymore. What’s real and what’s a dream are no longer discernible. They’re braided together, masquerading as each other.

His head hurts. Twigs are marrying the soles of his bare feet, trails of red following him like a shadow. A chill steals across his spine and as he walks, he sees them. They emerge, one by one, a phantom procession, a nightmarish parade.
